LAPLACE — The Board of Directors of the River Region Chamber of Commerce announced its support of the proposed millage proposition that the St. James Parish Council voted to bring before residents in the upcoming May 4 election.
The proposed 7-mill tax, for a period of 30 years would enable the parish to fund needed drainage and flood protection projects, as well as, constructing and improving the current levee system.
This tax is expected to generate $3.7M annually.
The Chamber supports this proposition with the protocol to protect the residents and businesses as St. James parish continues to promote economic development.
“St. James Parish must have sufficient funding to support much needed infrastructure improvements as well as on-going facility maintenance needs,” said Public Policy Chairman, Bub Millet. “A large part of economic growth is stemming from St. James. Proper funding is needed to protect the residents and our investments.”
