LAPLACE — The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for the local area until 6 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 8).
Short periods of strong to severe showers and thunderstorms associated with a cold front will impact the region with the worst conditions likely occurring between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The main threat is long, prolonged periods of heavy rainfall and possible other modes of severe weather.
Although two to four inches of rainfall is predicted, slow-moving storms could drop higher accumulations and cause street flooding in short periods of time.
Residents can assist by cleaning out storm drains and catch basins near home and businesses to help water drain quicker. Officials will be monitoring weather forecasts for any changes and crews are on call in the event problems occur. Residents should report any issues or concerns to 9-1-1.
