LAPLACE — A Houston man arrested last month in Texas faces extradition to St. John the Baptist Parish after authorities linked him to the killing of a LaPlace man more than a year ago.

Domanique Barnes, 22, was arrested Jan. 19 for second degree murder and armed robbery following the Feb. 15, 2017, fatal shooting of 29-year-old Andrew Jasmine.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Houston Police Department assisted local authorities in apprehending Barnes at an apartment complex in Houston.

He is being held in Harris County, Texas, and will be extradited to St. John Parish at a later date, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Jasmine was pronounced dead on the scene Feb. 15 at approximately 8:30 a.m. after deputies and emergency services responded to a complaint in the 2000 block of East Frisco Drive.

Police said the home was ransacked and investigation determined the motive for the shooting as the result of a “premeditated robbery of Jasmine.”

Those previously arrested include Ahkemon Jacob Bardell Jr., 21, of Harvey, Branden Clegg, 22, of Houston, and Malcom Muse, 21, of New Orleans.

Bardell and Muse are charged with second degree murder and armed robbery with a firearm. Clegg is charged with conspiracy to second degree murder and conspiracy to armed robbery.
