Robottom: Support your home by shopping local

As we put away our shorts and flip flops, and look forward to tailgates, football games, Christmas and bonfires, we would like to remind residents that shopping locally should not be forgotten about.
Each year, the Economic Development Department launches a campaign in an effort to promote locally owned and operated businesses in St. John Parish. Some businesses are not aware of this free incentive, which assists with getting traffic and consumers into to your store or restaurant.
Shop Local will be kicking off in November and businesses can register at no cost to participate in the campaign at sjbparish.com/shoplocal.
When you register, you will be entered into our database, receive signage that promotes your business and a chance to be on the annual Shop Local trivia card, which is mailed to each household in the Parish and offers prizes to those who fill it out.
For the first time, the Economic Development Department will be hosting Restaurant Week, Nov. 26 near Small Business Saturday, to raise awareness towards the many local restaurants, coffee shops, bars and sweet shops in our area.
We are asking those who participate as vendors to offer special discounts and offers. In return, your business will be marketed to visitors and locals through a variety of restaurant giveaways, E-Newsletters spotlights, Parish press releases and social media outlets.
Participating restaurants will also be given posters, postcards and table tents to assist with event promotion.
Shop Local works to educate consumers, business owners and the St. John Community about the many benefits of spending locally. You will hear the radio ads and see the signage; however, we must all take the actions and do our part in keeping the spending dollars here.
Please remember that for every $100 spent in St. John, $68 stays in the Parish. Please shop locally this holiday season and support the local owners and employees who are an integral part of what makes St. John a great place to live.
