LAPLACE — Four people, including three children, were rescued from a stranded boat this afternoon, authorities said.
As Hurricane Nate approached the Gulf Coast, producing high waves and winds, the St. John Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team was called Saturday to rescue four people including three children, ages 2, 5 and 6, stranded in Lake Maurepas.
About 2 p.m., officers responded to a distress call when a 39-year-old man reported his flat boat stalled.
Search and Rescue officers Blane Rome Sr., Elton Foret and Stephen Hefler were deployed, and within 33 minutes the officers were able to locate the subjects.
Officers towed the group to safety at the Reserve Canal launch. No one was injured.
