St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District master teacher Rebecca Holmes was recognized by the School Board at its Sept. 21 meeting for her accomplishments in music education at the national level.

Holmes was selected to travel to Washington, D.C., in October to help write music curriculum with the National Association for Music Education and the Library of Congress.

Holmes will concentrate on novice string orchestra implementation and how to integrate music education across the curriculum in subjects such as English Language Arts.

Holmes, a teacher at Fifth Ward Elementary School, recently received string instruments for her classes that will allow her to start a string orchestra at the school, a first for any school district in the River Parishes.
