Keller: Carrie DeKlyen made ultimate sacrifice for 6th child

Finding positive news in a world controlled by a liberal and negative media is almost impossible. The reason is because the majority of people prefer hearing and discussing bad news.
Sunday morning, I was excited to read a small article in a statewide newspaper titled: “Woman who chose baby over chemo dies.”
It was almost hidden from all the negative, alarming happenings in our country. It told of a pregnant Michigan mother, Carrie DeKlyen, who had brain cancer and refused chemotherapy, which would prolong her life.
I’m sure she loved life, but it would have meant having an abortion.
Unselfishly, she chose life, not her life, but the baby’s life. Because of her decision, she must have suffered and needed feeding and breathing tubes while hospitalized.
Last week, she gave birth to her sixth child. She died the day after the baby was born prematurely at 24 weeks and five days, weighing one pound, four ounces.
The father, Nick, said his daughter, Life Lynn, (named appropriately) is doing better than expected in neonatal intensive care, gaining weight and almost breathing on her own.
I was encouraged with the article and certainly can understand why it wouldn’t make the headlines. Unless you’re a Christian, it doesn’t make sense.
I’m sure the story of Carrie and her family will touch people’s lives, but more importantly, when she met her Heavenly Father, He said, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Welcome into eternity.”
