RESERVE — Riverside Academy running back Jeremy Gibson took to Twitter Sunday afternoon to thank God, his supporters and his coaches before announcing his commitment to the University of Arkansas.
The Hogs had made an offer to the 5-foot-10, 189-pound rising senior in March, giving him his first offer from a Southeastern Conference school.
He and some family members visited last weekend.
“It just knocked his socks off,” said Riverside Academy head coach Chris Lachney.
“I couldn’t be happier for him. He’s going to the best conference in the country to a team in that conference that’s probably most known for running the football. Good for him.”
Gibson told SEC Country he connected with the Arkansas coaches, including wide receivers coach Michael Smith, the Razorbacks’ recruiter in Louisiana.
“I feel a good vibe with the coaches,” Gibson said.
“I’ve been talking to them and I feel like they’re great coaches. I’ve already got a special relationship with them.”
Gibson was an All-St. John Parish team selection, a Class 2A All-State selection and the District 12-2A Offensive MVP following his junior year in which he rushed for 955 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Riverside Academy was the District 12-2A champion and went on to win the Division III state championship.
