An 18-wheeler overturned at approximately 3:10 p.m. Tuesday on Airline Highway in LaPlace, causing traffic congestion that didn’t clear for more than seven hours.
According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, Stanley Bailey, 42, of Violet was turning left onto Airline Highway when the trailer overturned on its passenger side in front of the Percy Hebert Building.
Corporal Anthony Preyan said Bailey was cited for careless operation, not having a license plate and failure to have registration.
Preyan said Bailey was hauling a load of scrap metal, and the tow truck company provided the cleanup crew to pick up everything that was spilled.
No injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved. Police reopened Airline Highway to full traffic at 11 p.m. Tuesday.
