RESERVE — The man who robbed Cox’s Meat Market got away … for a day, according to police.
Lionel Sanders, 58, of Reserve, was booked last week for simple robbery, with police saying Sanders is being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies first responded to Cox’s Meat Market in Reserve at 2:30 p.m. April 20.
“Deputies learned a male subject, later identified as Sanders, walked into the business, selected items and placed the items on the counter,” a Sheriff’s Office release said.
“As an employee opened the register, Sanders reached over the counter and stole an unknown amount of cash from the register.”
The robber fled, running east on River Road. Officers were unable initially to locate the robber despite canvassing the area.
Upon reviewing recorded video surveillance from the business and over the course of the investigation, “investigators identified the perpetrator as Sanders and arrested him (April 21) near a residence on East 12th Street in Reserve,” police said.
