EDGARD — Devon Jackson Jr., the infant son of St. John the Baptist Parish firefighter Devon Jackson Sr. and Ladeja Louper, continues to improve.

Ladeja Louper and Devon Jackson hold their son, Devon Jackson Jr., following his Feb. 7 birth.

The tot, born more than three months premature and weighing one pound, three ounces, is up to three pounds, six ounces, but remains hospitalized at Ochsner’s Baptist campus in New Orleans.

Devon Sr.’s fellow firefighters continue to rally around the young couple from Edgard as expenses mount.

The St. John the Baptist Parish fire department will hold a benefit May 6, selling $8 plate lunches from 11 a.m. while supplies last in the cafeteria at West St. John Elementary School, 2555 Louisiana 18 in Edgard. To place pre-orders, call 985-233-9606 or 985-497-3441.

Pre-orders can be picked up at Station 51, located at 521 Hemlock St. in LaPlace, and at Station 65 located at 337 Central Avenue in Reserve. Diners have a choice of red beans and rice with fried chicken or fish, rice dressing with fried chicken or fish or baked spaghetti with fried chicken or fish. All meals come with a dessert. Soft drinks are $1 extra.

All proceeds will go to the family to help with little Devon’s medical expenses.
