People often say that money is the root of all evil. The Bible explains that it’s not money, but the love of money that is evil.

1 Timothy 6:10 reads: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

It’s amazing how the Bible has the answer for all situations that we might face.

I’ll never forget that many years I was struggling financially and was unable to meet my obligations. One of my closest friends, Tom Smith, was the president of the bank to which I owed a substantial amount of money. My loan was past due and one day he said, “The directors are on me to get you to pay off your loan.”

“Tell them to read the Bible,” I said.

“What’s that got to do with your loan?” Tom asked.

That week I had read in Ecclesiastes 10:19: “A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry; but money answers all matters.”

“Tell the directors I don’t have any money now, so I can’t answer that matter.” I than added, “If they quit bugging me, I’d pay the loan, but I don’t honestly know when.”

Shortly after that, my best friend, Danny Louque of Quality Machine Works, called and asked me to make a list of all the money I owed.

“Why? I asked.

“Because God told me to help you get out of debt. A few friends and I want to pay off your debt so you can concentrate on Get High on Life.”

Embarrassed, I said, “You don’t have to do that.”

“Just make a list.”

With Danny’s leadership and many friends, they paid off all the debt.

Why do I tell that story?

Because it proves that when we don’t know where to turn and if we have faith, God steps up to the plate and delivers.

Jeanne and I have been blessed with Tom and Enid, Danny and Sue and many others who are special in our lives.
