ESJH’s Green picks UNO

LAPLACE — Former East St. John High basketball player Troy Green has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of New Orleans.

A 6-foot-4 guard, Green spent the 2016-17 season at Believe Prep Academy where he averaged 18.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. He will UNO as a true freshman will full eligibility.

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome Troy Green to the UNO basketball family,” coach Mark Slessinger said. “Troy is a student-athlete that we have recruited very hard over the past four years. He is a special young man who feels very strongly about being a part of our campus and program, and representing the city that he loves.”

Green was a four-year starter at East St. John High, where he helped lead the Wildcats to a combined 81-36 overall record and a 44-8 mark in district play, including a District 8-5A title as a freshman and District 7-5A championships as a sophomore and senior to go with four consecutive trips to the state playoffs.

He earned all-district honors in each of his final three prep seasons and was named to L’OBSERVATEUR’s All-St. John team as a junior and senior.

As a senior, Green was named honorable-mention All-State, District 7-5A Co-MVP, first-team all-district and third-team all-metro after averaging 17.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

He was selected to play in the 2016 Thibodaux Regional Bayou vs. River All-Star Game and won the event’s dunk contest.
