Relay For Life of St. John Parish kicks off Saturday

LAPLACE — Cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers and community members will unite for the annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of St. John Parish Saturday in an effort to free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer.

Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.

During Relay For Life events, members of each team take turns walking or running around the track or path. Teams participate in fundraising in the months leading up to the event.

Activities include music by careAsthmatic, games and food, along with the Relay For Life traditions of a Survivor Ceremony and Luminaria Ceremony honoring loved ones lost.

The event tales place from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Joe Keller Stadium, 400 Ory Drive in LaPlace.

The Survivor and Caregiver Ceremony starts at 5 p.m. and the Luminaria Ceremony starts at 8 p.m.
