GARYVILLE — Two men recently implicated in an armed robbery were involved in another armed conflict Thursday, police said, leaving one dead and the other facing a homicide arrest.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Kaylan Morris, 21, of Garyville at approximately 2 a.m. Friday in Baton Rouge.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said Morris would be charged with first degree murder.
According to Tregre, Morris is the only suspect in the Thursday afternoon killing of Norvon Gauff, 18.
Police said Gauff was shot at 3 p.m. in the 300 block of Fig Street in Garyville.
Deputies and emergency services rendered medical aid to Gauff, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
“(Morris) appears to be the only suspect that was involved in pulling the trigger,” Tregre said, adding detectives are looking into charging others associated with helping Morris flee the scene. “We need more people to come forward. We know a number of people witnessed this murder.”
Morris and Gauff were two of three suspects arrested in December following the armed robbery of Garyville General Store’s owner.
Store staff said the assailants were fully masked and wore gloves during the robbery, and police said tips from the community benefited the investigation.
