LAPLACE — A pre-teen local boy is behind bars, accused by police of raping his 5-year-old sibling.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives received a rape report Friday from a woman who said her grandchild had been assaulted in mid-March.

Police said the suspect was identified as a 12-year-old LaPlace male, who was arrested Monday and charged with first degree rape.

“During the investigation, detectives learned the juvenile had sexual contact with his 5-year-old sibling,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office said.

“During questioning, the juvenile admitted to his involvement. He was transferred to the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Center in Houma.”

Police said no further details would be made public due to the nature of the arrest and ages of the victim and perpetrator.
