LAPLACE — A stolen grocery basket led to jail time for a LaPlace man, authorities said.

Dervol Zeno, 36, pleaded guilty this month to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to information provided by the St. John the Baptist Parish Clerk of Court’s Office.

A plea agreement, according to the Clerk’s office, included Zeno’s sentence to 10 years with the Department of Corrections with credit for time served from Nov. 22, 2015. Zeno was also ordered to pay $315 in court costs.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reported several complaints of stolen grocery baskets from Winn Dixie led to Zeno’s arrest Nov. 18, 2015.

Deputies reported they investigated those thefts in the 2000 block of North Sugar Ridge Road in LaPlace, where Zeno was found in possession of a gun.

Zeno was booked with unauthorized removal of a shopping basket and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
