RESERVE — The St. John Theatre is producing the Broadway and cinema classic comedy Hairspray, the musical as its 2017 summer production.

The show goes back to 1962 Baltimore and features lovable, plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad, who has only one desire — to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a TV network, all without denting her ‘do!

Hairspray, the musical will be directed by long time St. John Theatre friend and actor “Uncle” Wayne Daigrepont.

Auditions are at 6 p.m. April 17-19 at the theater, 115 West 4th St. in Reserve.

All parts are open; backstage crew and staff positions are also available.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. July 21, 22, 26, 27, 28 and 29, as well as 2 p.m. July 23.
