Fire damages LaPlace home

RESERVE — A fire heavily damaged a home in Reserve Friday afternoon but there were no injuries, officials said.

Firefighters were called to a single home at 216 E. 28th St. Friday at 2:25 p.m. The first unit arrived on the scene at 2:29 p.m. and discovered a fire coming from the rear of the first floor and through the rear roof and second story.

The homeowner’s son was at home when the fire began but escaped without injury.

A total of 15 firefighters worked to put out the fire and the scene was cleared at 4:03 p.m.

The structure sustained heavy damage to the second floor and attic area and water and smoke damage to the first floor. The State Fire Marshal’s office has been contacted to conduct an investigation as to the cause of the fire.
