LAPLACE — Sgt. Grant Pierre of the St. John Sheriff’s Office was recognized as Deputy of the Month by the St. John Business Association Wednesday during the group’s meeting at Petra’s in LaPlace.
Pierre was honored for his kindness to an elderly couple.
On Jan. 12, Pierre responded to a call for service at the St. John Correctional Facility in reference to an elderly couple being dropped off by State Police at the facility after their vehicle broke down in Hester.
With no family or friends available at the time to assist the couple, the man and woman had nowhere to go. They had no money, and they were tired, Pierre said. And, the woman was sick and used a wheelchair.
Pierre paid for a hotel room for a night and provided a meal for the couple.
“It’s acts like this that often go unnoticed,” Lt. Michelle Piearson said. “I just wanted to recognize my co-worker for his act of kindness.”
Assisting Pierre with this kind act to help the couple were his commander, Lt. Jason Raborn, and Deputy Daniel Materne.
