RESERVE — More than four years after Hurricane Isaac devastated parts of St. John the Baptist Parish, there remain more than 500 homes in need of repair.

With a Community Development Block Grant in place to help fund those repairs, the Parish is looking to spur the process by holding a job fair Jan. 20 at REGALA Gym, located at 200 Regala Park Drive in Reserve.

The event, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon, seeks to help match contractors looking for workers with subcontractors looking for jobs.

“We are trying to match our prime contractors with some of the sub-contractors in the area,” said Myra Alexis Valentine, the grant administrator for the project. “Some of the smaller mom and pop contractors may not be able to afford the higher insurance that it would take to bid on the project. This can help them out.”

Valentine said a similar job fair held in September had an excellent turnout.

The event allows vendors, suppliers and skilled trades people to connect with contractors who have or who will bid on the local projects.

Attendees are encouraged to bring business cards, fliers, resumes, etc.
