RESERVE — Criminal charges are pending, authorities said, after a LaPlace woman died as the result of injuries suffered in a violent Reserve wreck.
Louisiana State Police Troop B Spokeswoman Melissa Matey said 24-year-old Danielle Georgel of LaPlace was pronounced dead at Ochsner Health Center – River Parishes following the Thursday wreck.
Matey said investigators believe Georgel was the front seat passenger in a Ford Taurus driven by 24-year-old Tylas Bailey of Vacherie traveling in the right lane on Airline Highway South approaching Central Avenue.
A 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by 17-year-old Christian Moses of Gonzales, was traveling on Airline Highway North and made a left turn onto Central Avenue.
The Ford struck the Chevrolet on the passenger side as the Chevrolet was crossing the southbound lanes of Airline Highway, Matey said.
Georgel was pronounced dead at the hospital, Bailey was airlifted to University Medical Center with moderate injuries and Moses suffered minor injuries and was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, according to authorities.
Georgel and Bailey were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Moses was properly restrained.
“Impairment is not suspected from either driver, but Troopers obtained a blood sample from both and toxicology tests are pending with the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab,” Matey said. “The crash remains under investigation, and criminal charges are pending.”
