- The St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District held its District Spelling Bee Jan. 27 and 28. Students first had to win their school spelling bees to qualify for the district contest. District winners at the sixth-grade level were, front row, from left, Semaria Lee, first; Essence Tarrence, second; and Jada Brown, third. School-level winners were, back row, Re’Sean Baker, Caige Lee, A’Lijia Sampson, Amyrah Traywick and DaNajah Jones.
District winners at the seventh-grade level were, front row, from left, Jemmie Valles, first; Brian Carrera, second; Jordan Coleman, second; and Torron Brown, third. School-level winners were, back row, Ronald Holland, Christopher Hammett, Antwan Johnson and Lyric Keller.
District winners at the eighth-grade level were, front row, from left, Tamiyah Gross, first; Jenna Necaise, second; and Madyson Mays. School-level winners were, back row, Coraniquejuanae Jackson, Elsy Pena, Curtis Dedeaux, Tahyri Bolden and D’lancia Stokes.
