RESERVE — Authorities believe a 22-year-old male was the target of an isolated shooting early Tuesday in Reserve.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 2900 block of West Airline Highway at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a call about a car being shot multiple times.
Sgt. Dane Clement said the victim, who was also the driver, called authorities. The driver told authorities he turned north on East 22nd Street from Perrilloux Street in Reserve when he heard gunshots hitting his car.
Authorities said the victim was the only person in the car and his car was the only one targeted.
“We aren’t releasing how many times the car was hit or what type of weapon was used, because it is still an ongoing investigation,” Clement said.
“He was struck multiple times on the passenger side. There were no other calls of this nature, so detectives feel that he was targeted. It doesn’t feel like a random act.”
As of Tuesday at press time, authorities said no motive or suspects have been identified.
The victim was not injured, Clement said, adding authorities are not releasing what direction or where the bullets originated.
After the attack, the victim fled in his car along Airline Highway, at which time he called the police.
Anyone with information regarding this shooting is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
Those who call Crimestoppers do not have to testify and may qualify for a cash reward. Tips can be submitted at stjohnsheriff.org/submitatip.php.
