DESTREHAN — Savannah Sadaiappen, a senior at Destrehan High School, is raising awareness for environmental protection for her senior project.

“I’m doing this project because I feel that it’s important people become aware about the degradation of our environment so that they can take action to help preserve it,” Sadaiappen said.

Sadaiappen is selling T-shirts for $10 each to raise money for the Louisiana Wildlife Federation, where the money will be used on a project of their choosing.

The goals of the LWF are to conserve the natural resources of Louisiana, with particular emphasis on fish and wildlife and their habitats; to protect the rights of Louisiana citizens to enjoy these resources in accordance with sound, scientifically established resource management principles; and to accomplish this primarily through education and advocacy.

Sadaiappen created the design and asked Destrehan student Cole Grishop to complete the artwork.

Those interested in supporting Sadaiappen’s project can call 504-327-0650 or email savannahsadaiappen@yahoo.com for more information.

“By doing this project I hope to communicate with the public how important our environment is, especially the wetlands since they are our home,” Sadaiappen said.
