The East St. John Wildcats (1-7) will host the Franklin Hornets (1-7) Friday with each team aiming to pick up their second win on the season.

Last week, the Wildcats picked up their lone win of the year with a 47-37 victory over Terrebonne (2-6).

East St. John head coach Alden Foster said he is not going to get picky at this time of the season.

“(Terrebonne) had been playing a lot better,” Foster said. “They’ve only won two games, but a win is a win. I don’t care who it is against.”

Wildcats quarterback Marquise Darensbourg had a career performance last week, completing 10 of 19 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns and one interception, while adding 224 yards and three rushing touchdowns off of 24 carries.

“Darensbourg had a monster game,” Foster said. “He carried us, and we clicked on offense and defense. We played well. Overall, it was a good effort.”

Going into the Franklin game, Foster said the Wildcats would have to put in a team effort.

“The thing is we’ve got to play well,” Foster said. “This team here has a lot of good athletes all over the field. They are doing a good job. In watching them, if you are not doing what you are supposed to do, they will make you pay. So the plan is to build on where we left off last week and get better.”

In particular, Foster said Franklin has offensive weapons.

“They have some athletes,” Foster said. “The quarterback can throw it, and they can flat out run it.”

Foster said it would be very difficult for the Wildcats to make the playoffs, if possible at all, but ending the season with three straight wins would be good for his players’ morale.

“The thing is we need to win the last three,” Foster said. “If we don’t make the playoffs, it will lead into spring for next year and the offseason. If we don’t get to the playoffs, we want these two games to give everyone something to look forward to seeing next year.”
