West St. John searching for redemption

EDGARD — The West St. John Rams (2-5) will be looking for redemption this week when they take on the Sophie B. Wright Warriors (1-5) Friday.
The Rams haven’t had a victory since winning their first two games of the season against St. James and Donaldsonville.
The Warriors have only pulled off one win, their season opener against Crescent City.
“The way we’ve been playing, I can’t say if we have an advantage just because we have won more games then they have,” West St. John head football coach Brandon Walters said. “But we should be fine against them.”
While the Rams have some confidence going into Friday’s game, Walters said they don’t want to get over their heads.
“I don’t ever want to take anybody lightly,” Walters said. “The way we’ve been playing, we definitely can’t take anyone lightly. I definitely feel that this is a team we can beat.”
Walters said his team would be working on the same things they work on every week.
“We are going to try to find some things that we can isolate in their defense,” Walters said. “We’ll be working on the same things we normally do.”
Walters said there are a couple of Warriors players WSJ will definitely be looking out for.
“No. 7 (senior wide receiver Kevin Johnson) and No. 3 (freshman quarterback Brandon Williams) are good,” Walters said. “They are key players.”
Walters said despite everything, he thinks his team is pretty confident.
“We’ve been having a rough couple of weeks,” Walters said. “I think our kids are pretty much ready to play. Their confidence level is pretty much where it should be considering the fact that we lost so many games in a row.
“It’s new territory for us, but I believe the kids are still confident in what we can do and how well we can play this week.”
The Rams will face off against Wright at 7 p.m. Friday at West St. John High School.
