The Louisiana Writes! Youth Writing Contest is open to students from kindergarten to 12th grade and is managed by volunteer teachers from the National Writing Project. Each year these teachers from around the state gather to judge nearly 1,000 entries in the areas of English or French fiction, nonfiction and poetry. The finalists are judged by Louisiana authors. Hahnville High School had three winners in the non-fiction category: first place, Savannah Whitney, second place, Camryn Mikesell; and third place, Cameron Matthews.
