LAPLACE — The River Region Chamber of Commerce recently became an official Neighborhood Champion through Shop Small Saturday, a nationwide program sponsored by the American Express to promote small businesses in local communities.

The River Region Chamber became affiliated with Shop Small Saturday through its affiliation with St. John Parish Economic Development’s recent Shop Local campaign.

Neighborhood Champions are those who play a key role in supporting small businesses that help neighborhoods and communities thrive. Shop Small will sponsor its annual Shop Local Saturday Nov. 28 in neighborhoods throughout the nation.

The River Region Chamber of Commerce will participate by promoting small businesses throughout the region and encouraging participation in the 2015 Shop Local Saturday event.

“We are honored to be a part of this initiative to support local businesses, which are a vital part of the economy and culture of the River Region parishes. We are strong supporters of any endeavor that seeks to promote small businesses and their valuable contributions to our local communities,” Chassity McComack, River Region Chamber executive director, said.
