LAPLACE — Jaclyn Hotard will seek re-election as Division B, Council–at-Large.
“It has been an honor to serve the citizens of St. John, and I am grateful to the residents for this opportunity,” Hotard said. “I remain committed to finishing the work that we have started and improving the quality of life for all of our residents. As a mother of a teen, I understand how vitally important it is that we work together to create an environment that will make St. John a great place for our children to call home.”
During Hurricane Isaac, Hotard said her commitment to the community was evident, as she was on the ground rescuing residents stuck by the flood waters. After Hurricane Isaac, Hotard said she led a coalition to Washington, D.C. to help convince members of Congress to overhaul the Biggert-Waters act which, if left unchanged, would have devastated the area with unaffordable flood insurance premium rates.
Hotard said she played a key role in getting an agreement on the alignment of the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Levee, which had caused the project to stall for years.
“The previous alignment would have left our I-10 corridor and evacuation route completely unprotected, so it was critical that we stayed on course for the safety of our residents,” she said. “We are now one step closer to securing comprehensive flood protection for St. John.
“Experience and engaged leadership will be necessary over the next four years. With over $70 million in critical improvements under way, competent decision-making and the ability to listen to the concerns of the residents of this great Parish will be crucially important. I have worked diligently over the last few years to make St. John the Baptist Parish a great place to live and raise our children. I have the leadership and experience to make the tough decisions and to fight for the citizens of this parish.”
Hotard holds a Bachelor’s Degree in marketing from Southeastern University. She is a lifelong resident of St. John the Baptist Parish and resides with her daughter, Cobi, in LaPlace.
