LAPLACE — The commute from St. John the Baptist Parish to New Orleans or Baton Rouge may have just gotten more comfortable for the road warriors who traverse the distance for work.
Greyhound announced it has expanded service in LaPlace by adding QuickLink service between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, giving commuters a convenient option to stay productive on the road and arrive at their destination refreshed and relaxed.
“Replace the stress of your commute and turn nerve-racking traffic jams into productive time or pure relaxation,” the Greyhound website states. “Ride on comfortable buses equipped with reclining seats, extra legroom, power outlets, free Wi-Fi, climate control, tinted windows and an on-board restroom.”
Lanesha Gipson, senior communication specialist with Greyhound Lines Inc., said 99 percent of Greyhound’s fleet includes the amenities listed on the website.
She said the QuickLink offering comes in response to a demand for service in smaller markets, like LaPlace, between larger cities such as Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
“We’re excited to provide a service that allows our customers to experience an affordable, stress-free commute,” Dave Leach, president and CEO of Greyhound Lines Inc., said. “With the assistance of the Louisiana DOTD, we’re able to connect rural communities, such as Gonzales, Houma and LaPlace to Greyhound’s extensive network for the first time in 10 years.”
Leach said the company has “seen an increase in demand for service within these communities, and we’re pleased to offer a safe, convenient and affordable transportation option for their daily commute.”
Greyhound, the largest North American provider of intercity bus transportation, recently relaunched service in LaPlace at Allied Express, located at 101 Carrollwood Drive.
“Business at the LaPlace stop is going well,” Gipson said. “We’re currently in the introductory stage, as it has been 10 years since we last served the community. However, we’ve seen a steady increase of new customers since we opened on June 1.”
Gipson said Greyhound previously served LaPlace from the 1940s to 2005, adding the company decided previously to eliminate service due to low ridership.
“We saw an increase in demand and decided to establish service again,” she said.
According to the Greyhound website, QuickLink provides an alternative to the daily commute by offering schedules in the morning and return service in the afternoon. Fares start at $11.
Prior to the service expansion in LaPlace, Greyhound already offered schedules between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, allowing customers to travel direct between the two cities. With the expansion, Greyhound will increase frequency to 25 schedules per day on this route.
Discounted multi-trip passes for QuickLink can be purchased online at greyhoundquicklink.com and on the QuickLink mobile site.
Customers can also purchase tickets at greyhound.com, at the Greyhound Baton Rouge and New Orleans terminals, or at the LaPlace location.
QuickLink Service to and from LaPlace is available at the following locations: 2915 Highland Road and 1253 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge, 2200 W. Cabelas Pkwy. in Gonzales, 7724 Park Ave. in Houma and 1001 Loyola Ave. in New Orleans.
