John David “Coach” Boughton

John David “Coach” Boughton was born on June 29, 1936, and passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015.

He was a resident of Vacherie and a native of Mangham.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frieda Williams Boughton; children Cindi Boughton Shepard (Danny), and Felix “Bubba” Boughton (Anne); sisters Bobbie Magoun (Ronny) and Mary Pruitt (Keith); sister-in-law, Joan Doak (Jimmy) and brother-in-law, Kent Williams (Deanna); grandchildren Amber Gravois (Bryan), John Shepard, Melanie Diebold, Alicia Diebold and John E. Boughton; great-grandchildren Evelyn Shepard, Easton Gravois and Ella Soulie and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Evelyn Boughton.

Boughton was a graduate of Mangham High School, Class of 1954, LSU in 1963, and Nicholls State.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Donaldsonville Masonic Lodge #251.

He was an educator for 37 years in St. James Parish, serving as a teacher, coach and principal at St. James High School and then supervisor at the central office, retiring as the superintendent in 1998.

He was a Commissioner on the Lafourche Basin Levee District. He was a member of the Vacherie United Methodist Church.

Boughton loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, antique picking, gardening, cows, hunting, fishing and cheering on his teams — especially the St. James High School Wildcats and LSU Tigers.

Visitation is from 1 until 2 p.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Mangham, with the funeral service followed by burial in Prewitt Cemetery in Mangham.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Research Hospital or Bethlehem Baptist Church are welcome.
