Letter: Reserve needs to support The Ex-Im Bank

DSC Dredge LLC builds customized dredging equipment right here in Reserve that is sold around the world. The more DSC can sell into markets abroad, the more it can create good-paying, stable jobs at home.

But DSC faces intense competition in global markets. In fact, many of our foreign competitors are backed by financing from their own governments that give them an unfair advantage over companies like DSC.

And that’s where programs like the U.S. Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im) come into play, by helping to level the playing field.

Ex-Im provides the assurance many foreign buyers need or require when making purchases around the world. Without it, we couldn’t secure the deals that we do.

And it’s not just DSC — Ex-Im has supported over $1.6 billion dollars in Louisiana exports since 2007.

Unfortunately, the expiration date for the Bank’s charter is approaching this June.

Congress cannot wait until the last minute to resolve this critical issue. The uncertainty hanging over the Bank’s future is already hurting the ability of U.S. businesses to compete and win in a tough global market.

And if Congress fails to reauthorize the Bank, jobs here in Reserve could be at risk.

I hope you’ll join DSC in supporting an agency that helps small businesses grow and expand, supports jobs at home and is still able to return money to U.S. taxpayers.
