KILLONA — A St. Charles Parish man was arrested for the second time in two days today after authorities said a dog had to be put down following a stomping assault.
Sheriff Greg Champagne said Rashard C. Poche was re-arrested Friday afternoon on upgraded charges of aggravated cruelty to animals — a felony, “after the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office received additional information and reports from a veterinarian at the animal clinic, which attempted to save the small dog victimized by Poche,” a release from authorities said.
Based upon this additional information and after consultation with the district attorney, a second arrest warrant on the upgraded charges was signed by Judge Emile St. Pierre, Champagne said.
A release from Champagne earlier in the week indicated deputies received a call Monday in reference to an animal cruelty complaint.
Officers then learned Poche threw a dog against a wall, then stomped on the dog while at a Killona residence, Champagne said.
The dog was taken to Riverlands Animal Hospital in LaPlace.
The dog, who was being treated for severe head trauma, neck injury and state of shock, had to be put down Wednesday due to injuries sustained during the beating, Champagne said.
A warrant was issued for Poche, 37, for cruelty to animals. Authorities said he was first arrested at 10 p.m. Thursday and was released Friday morning after posting $280.
Poche’s last known address is 121 Killona Drive in Killona.
