LAPLACE — State Superintendent of Education John White and State Sen. Troy Brown visited Emily C. Watkins Elementary School Monday.

The visit was part of an effort by the state superintendent and legislators to understand what successes and challenges educators are facing.

Topics included the continued implementation of the Common Core State Standards, parental involvement and early childhood education.

Emily C. Watkins Elementary School Principal Antoinette Robinet, master teacher Shelly Chauvin, St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools Superintendent Kevin George and Assistant Superintendent Quentina Timoll were on hand to answer questions and provide feedback.
