VACHERIE — A Vacherie man was arrested this week after firing a shot into a passing vehicle, authorities said.

The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance located at a residence on South Peach Street in Vacherie at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities said deputies discovered a shooting had taken place between two male subjects.

Major Sid Berthelot said further investigation revealed Kasey Matherne fired one shot at an occupied vehicle. Berthelot said the single gunshot entered the front driver’s side windshield, but did not strike anyone.

Matherne, of 13269 South Peach St. in Vacherie, was arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

Berthelot said Matherne was released the same day after posting a $25,000 bond set by Judge Ralph Tureau.
