CONVENT — A convicted sex offender was arrested after falsifying his address to the community as one in Paulina, authorities said.
Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. said Brent Joseph Louque Jr., 39, is being held at St. James Parish Jail in Convent for failing to register as a sex offender under a $25,000 bond set by Judge Jessie LeBlanc.
Louque was arrested Oct. 23.
The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office issued mail out notifications to inform the public residing near Alcee Street in Paulina that a registered sex offender — LeBlanc — was living in their neighborhood.
In addition to the mail outs, Louque is required to publish his address in the official news journal that appeared Oct. 16 and 23, stating his address and his conviction for carnal knowledge of a juvenile on Sept. 13, 1999.
After the publication, the Sheriff’s Office learned Louque falsified his registration, Martin said.
“The address in which he provided at the time of his registration was not the address where he was living, which was actually in Ascension Parish,” Martin said.
