ST. ROSE — River Region Arts & Humanities Council members and the general public are invited to take a “ride” down memory lane as the Council features many of the important landmarks along Route 61, Airline Highway.

“As We Remember … Route 61” is from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 11 at G. Smith Motorsports, 10567 Airline Highway in St. Rose.

The theme for this year’s fundraising Gala focuses on U.S. 61 or Airline Highway as a vital roadway that connects the three River Parishes.

Gala Committee members have assembled many photos from the 1940s to today that highlight life — past and present — along Route 61. Many of the photos are of places that have become an important part of the history of the River Parishes.

The featured musical guest for the evening is the Reed Alleman Band.

Alleman is from St. Charles Parish and is a singer/songwriter whose band has entertained crowds along the Gulf Coast for over two decades.

Many of his songs are written about the South Louisiana that he grew up in, tackling subjects like marsh and swampland destruction, Mississippi River refineries and the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina.

A silent auction will feature jewelry items from Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, and there will also be a live auction of an original painting by a local artist.

Guests will enjoy the many collector vintage cars, custom motorcycles, as well as new sports cars on display in the motorsports building.

The ticket price is $50 per person and includes a complimentary cocktail upon arrival and hors d’oeuvres. A cash bar will also be available.

The LSU game will be playing for those avid LSU fans. Tickets will be available for purchase the night of the event.
