LUTCHER — Lutcher resident Darnell Robertson Sr. is behind bars at the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office after Judge Alvin Turner set his bond at $350,000 for the second-degree murder of Mickquell Duhone.

According to St. James Parish Sheriff Willy Martin Jr., Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call regarding a shooting that occurred near the intersection of Fifth Street and West Lebray Street in Lutcher at 3:55 p.m. Sept. 24.

Martin said officers who arrived at the scene learned one individual, Duhone, had been shot and was taken to East St. James Hospital by someone passing the intersection. Duhone died from his wounds approximately two hours later.

Martin declined to comment on where Duhone was shot or the number of shots fired. Through their investigation and witness accounts, officers learned the shooting was the culmination of a fight that took place between Duhone and Robertson, 48, of 234 Lionel Washington St. in Lutcher.

Robertson was arrested for second-degree murder and carrying of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Martin said Robertson’s original bond was set at $125,000 — an amount Robertson posted “immediately.”

A bond hearing was held Wednesday after the victim’s family expressed concerns Robertson was no longer incarcerated.

Martin said the only other arrests that may stem from the case is that of individuals who may have been involved in the fight, adding Robertson is the only suspect in the homicide.
