Keller: God’s gift of babies keeps family growing

When Jeanne and I got married in 1958, we agreed that we wanted to have children as soon as possible. We also said we wanted 10 children.

Jeanne got pregnant three months after we were married and we were blessed with a little girl.

Because she was born by a Caesarean section, the doctor informed us that would limit our family to four.

Today, many families consider four a big family.

Recently, while in a grocery store, a lady I’ve known since high school asked me how many grandchildren I had. When I said 15, she seemed surprised and said, “With only four children, you have 15 grandchildren!”

Being a proud parent, grandparent and great-grandfather, I said, “And we’re expecting our 10th and 11th great-grandchild! Our granddaughter, Brittany, is due to deliver twins next week!”

Tuesday, at the Women’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, Brittany gave birth to twins, a boy Zachary, and a girl Zoey. Zachary weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and Zoey was 6 pounds, 1 ounce.

There were many family members and friends at the hospital to welcome the twins.

The dad, Justin Smith, was as happy and proud as any man I’ve ever seen.

The babies are both healthy. God is so faithful! We can’t ever thank Him enough.

And for more excitement, our granddaughter Monique shared that she is expecting our 12th great-grandchild in March!

Genesis 1:27,28, “…God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.”

Jeanne and I have been blessed with every new arrival. Our prayer for each of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren is that they realize they were created for a purpose and that purpose is to love and serve God.
