St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the intersection of Cartier Drive and Heather Lane in LaPlace at 4:26 p.m. Tuesday after a report of gunshots heard in the area.
When deputies arrived, the mother of a shooting victim told deputies her son was shot and brought to River Parish Hospital.
He was later transferred to a New Orleans-area hospital for additional treatment for a gunshot wound in his right lower back.
His current condition is unknown. No one else was injured, authorities said.
“The 19-year-old male victim and a 20-year-old male acquaintance were with a group of people near a residence in the 1500 block of Cartier Drive,” a release said. “A verbal altercation ensued with another group of individuals, and a male subject from that group shot in the direction of the victim and his acquaintance as they ran to the rear of a residence. The victim was shot, and the male acquaintance brought him to River Parish Hospital.”
