Dorothy Schexnayder Loftus, 76, of New Orleans, passed away peacefully in her home in LaPlace on Nov. 25, 2013. She was born on June 18, 1937, to the late Adele Drury Robison and Ralph Sharwarth. She married the late Elmore Anthony Schexnayder on June 4, 1955, and Peter Loftus on April 30, 2005, and he survives.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Scharwarth, her sisters Vivian Shelton and Carolyn Scharwarth, and her great-grandson Derrick Schexnayder;
She is survived by
her siblings, Barbara Cox and Robert Scharwarth.
A Beloved mother, Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses: Karen and Philip Kopfinger, Vicky and David Sisk, Randy and Shirley Schexnayder, Brian and Tammy Schexnayder and Carla and Johnny Williamson. She was beloved grandmother to Andrew Kopfinger, Kyle Kopfinger, Aaron Reid Kopfinger, Jeanné George, Amber Simon, Cortny Edler, Sabrina Sisk, Samantha Sisk, Devin Schexnayder, Sonya Schexnayder, Jon Michael Schexnayder, Charles Dylan Schexnayder, Brandy Schexnayder, Sherri Boyd, Jennifer DeKanter, and Anthony Schexnayder, Aimeé Williamson and Alaina Williamson.
Dorothy is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and long-time friends.
Dorothy a long-time resident of LaPlace retired from the
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Department. She enjoyed gardening, loved flowers, took great pleasure in cooking and loved reading novels and traveling, but her passion was in helping others. Lending an ear or giving of her time, she was always dependable and will be missed dearly.
