HAHNVILLE – A man was arrested on July 9 for allegedly making fake purchase orders using the St. Charles Parish School Board’s name.
On two occasions, Matthew Gill allegedly made fake purchase orders using the St. Charles Parish School Board’s name to purchase several laptops and deliver them to his home address.Using the tracking number, Gill would schedule to pick up the order at Fed Ex before it would be delivered to his residence. Gill used a fraudulent name, letterhead and purchase orders.
The computer company receiving the order became suspicious and notified the St. Charles Parish School Board, which reported the incident to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. Working with Fed Ex, detectives were able to determine that Gill was the person receiving the stolen items.
During the investigation it was learned that Gill also used the Bogalusa School Board’s information to make fraudulent purchases of laptops. Detectives recovered property related to
the Bogalusa School Board theft while executing a search warrant of his residence. It is believed that Gill was one of several people operating as part of a scam stretching across multiple jurisdictions within the U.S. and overseas.
Gill was arrested on a warrant that was issued on July 8 for theft more than $1,500, attempted theft and possession of stolen property less than $1,500.
