The 62^nd Annual National Day of Prayer was scheduled observed throughout the nation on Thursday, May 2, 2013. The Louisiana National Day of Prayer program will be held from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. on that day in the Senate Chamber at the State Capitol.

 

Governor Bobby Jindal, Senate President John Alario, House Speaker Chuck Kleckley and Senate President Pro-Tem Sharon Weston Broome are scheduled to speak at the National Day of Prayer service along with many other dignitaries and community leaders. Prayers will be offered up asking for God’s favor on our state and nation.

 

The purpose of the National Day of Prayer event is to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, mobilizing the faith community to intercede for America and its leadership in the seven mountains of influence: Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church and Family.

 

This year’s theme “Pray for America,” is based on Matthew 12:21 which reminds us that “In His name the nations will put their hope.”

 

The National Day of Prayer tradition is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
