LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 1000 block of West Airline Highway in LaPlace for the report of a stolen vehicle from Houston in the area on Saturday, Feb. 9. The Crime Camera System alerted dispatch operators in the radio room that the stolen vehicle was in the area. Deputies then located the car and arrested the driver.
The Crime Camera System reads all license plates that pass. The license plate number is then run through a national database to see if it matches any license plate numbers that are marked as wanted or of interest.
The driver was identified as Jose Lopez, 54, from Houston. He was charged with possession of stolen property. Lopez remains in jail; his bond is $5,000.
