LAPLACE — St. Charles Catholic pulled within one after falling behind 2-0 in the second half of its district opener at Haynes Wednesday, but the Yellow Jackets ultimately held on for a 2-1 victory.
Haynes moves to 7-4 with the win and 1-0 in District 10-III play.
Dylan Scheurich scored both goals for Haynes.
Andrew Brady scored the lone goal for St. Charles.
St. Charles coach Sean LeBlanc said that he saw a lot of positives in the match despite the loss and that he feels his players are moving in the right direction as the season moves along.
“Offensively, we’re creating a lot more chances for ourselves,” he said. “We’re getting to loose balls and winning those battles consistently for the first time. It was probably the best we’ve played this season.”
The Comets are 2-7 on the season. LeBlanc said that the beginning of district play represents a chance for SCC to start over in a sense and make a run to the postseason.
“It starts with how we prepare and what kind of attitude we approach these upcoming games with,” said LeBlanc. “If we have the right mindset, we can make a run in these final weeks.”
