After reading an article about camping presented through the News 2 You program, Harry Hurst teacher Noel Smith’s students wanted to see what camping was really like. Soon after, Smith and paraeducator Tracy Vollenweider arranged a school day opportunity for the kids to experience putting up a tent and building a campfire. Students were then able to participate in traditional camping activities such as roasting hot dogs and the students’ favorite, making and eating smores.
