Recently the Garyville Fire Department completed a Medical First Responder Certification Class. This level of training is designed specifically for the person who is often first to arrive at the scene. Many firefighters are certified as first responders. This training emphasizes activating the EMS system and providing immediate care of life-threatening injuries and illnesses, controlling the scene and preparing for the arrival of an ambulance. The class consisted of basic medical skills including CPR and AED certification.
