Time and distance bring new views

When I left Reserve at the age of 16 to attend the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches, there were no golf carts on the roads, but Michael “Bones” Barre and Donny Torres and a few other lucky boys, like the Maderes and Babins, had go-carts, dirt bikes and three-wheelers. The Robottom sisters had retired their matching 1970s-era Dodge Challengers. My cousin Huey Porter had transformed a 1960s heap of rust into a like-new Chevy Camaro, without the aid of the Internet, and there were no more horses in the corral.
