At St. Peter Chanel tried to help the less fortunate by Pledging to Pedal for the Poor and participating in SPC’s Youth Bike-and Trike-A-Thon.
Participants rode over 214 laps around St. Joseph’s Church and cemetery grounds. That was over 133 miles. Not only did the students give up their Saturday morning to help others, but they also collected pledges and donations that totaled over $1,000. When fifth-grade student Paige Delbasty and seventh-grade student Lamy Guidry were asked what they liked best about the event, neither hesitated in saying that “raising money to help others” was the best part of the event. The money collected will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul Society in Lutcher to help those in need in the community.
All participants enjoyed a fun-filled morning of sharing in the school’s theme this year, “SPC Gives Back.” The students participating in the bike- and trike-a-thon were treated to jambalaya, freezie pops and beverages. They were able to enjoy the beautiful spring weather and ride their bikes and trikes. But most of all, the students enjoyed coming together to give of their time to help others.
